Self-Love: A Healthy Perspective
There is this article I have had bookmarked on my phone since 2016, time and time again I have found a need to revisit it and each time, I absorb it differently. Both mind and eyes more aged, yet both see more clear as the veil lifts as I’m learning to unlearn all of the things that bind me to a past, more self-sabotaging self.
One of my favorite quotes from this article says,
"Self-love is the force that negotiates internal and external realities. This negotiation creates balance in the body and mind. Therefore, self-love is an independent act because it cannot be disrupted; it can only be informed."
Quotes like this remind me of the power in being a writer.. although I have read these words dozens of times, each time feels like the first. I feel the same forceful sweeping away of any fog, any doubt, any confusion and I am reminded of how simple it is, or should be, to love. Especially ourselves.
This message has always stood out to me, and I hope you find it just as powerful. Click here to read this post from Elephant Journal and bookmark it for your own reasons, either way.. I highly recommend.
Part of loving yourself involves cultivating trust in yourself. Just like our relationships with others, a lack of trust can make it difficult to flourish. Testing your own boundaries, stepping into the unknown, and embracing uncomfortable experiences are ways to build this trust. For me, understanding that the universe always has my back, regardless of circumstances, has been crucial.
When we believe that life is rigged in our favor, we view the world from a different perspective. It allows us to step into the unknown with confidence and cultivate an unshakeable trust in ourselves and the universe.
Believing that life has your back enables you to navigate through uncertainties. Embracing all aspects of life, even the challenging ones, helps us trust ourselves more deeply. Life's experiences, whether good or bad, are all part of this self-love journey.
Remember, you are the architect of your life. Consciously choose your friends, relationships, and how you put your energy into the world. You have the power to make decisions that align with your values and promote a positive self-image.
A significant point in practicing self-love is to "align with purpose, not patterns." We all have patterns we're trying to outgrow. For me, this mantra helps keep my boundaries firm and my behavior aligned with my goals. By breaking unhealthy cycles, we foster healthier relationships and personal growth.
Self-awareness is at the heart of self-love. Recognizing how your actions and emotions impact others and yourself is essential. The more aware you are, the more you can foster love for yourself even in uncomfortable situations.
Always remember that you have the power. You call the shots about who you give your energy to, the boundaries you set, and how you navigate your relationships.
In the end, self-love is about trusting your journey, embracing your experiences, and being aware of your power to make meaningful choices.
